Owner maintenance
Restore a clear windscreen: washer and glass care
Start with clean glass, approved washer fluid and a gentle nozzle check.
Check the simple causes
Park safely with the ignition off before handling parts. Check the labelled washer reservoir and use washer fluid suitable for the vehicle and local conditions, mixed to the product instructions. Do not put coolant, kitchen detergent or an unknown chemical in the reservoir.
Clean the screen and rubber
Use automotive glass cleaner and a clean microfibre cloth, keeping cleaner away from paint where its label requires. Wipe grit off the blade rubber gently. Replace cracked or torn rubber with compatible blades; cleaning cannot repair damaged rubber.
Inspect the spray
Operate the washers briefly from the driver’s seat and observe the pattern while parked. Do not repeatedly run a dry pump. With the ignition off again, wipe visible residue off the nozzle exterior. Do not force wire or drill bits into the jet: the nozzle can be enlarged or misdirected.
Know when to stop
A silent pump, leaking hose, persistent blockage or spray that cannot reach the glass needs diagnosis. Avoid probing wiring or running the pump continuously. Ask a workshop to inspect the supply, hoses and nozzle adjustment if a simple clean and correct fluid do not restore operation.
