Plan your Ambassador restoration — original illustration

Inventory first

Photograph the vehicle and label removed components. Group requirements by engine, cooling, transmission, brakes, steering, suspension, electrical, body and interior. Record part numbers and quantities in a workshop list.

Prioritise roadworthiness

Let a qualified workshop assess structural condition and safety systems before cosmetic purchases. Confirm the installed engine and transmission before selecting mechanical parts. Do not assume components interchange between Mark models, Nova, Classic, Grand, Avigo or Encore.

Buy in sensible stages

Agree the scope and budget with your workshop, then source complete assemblies or kits where appropriate. Inspect each delivery, retain invoices and keep a record of replacements for future maintenance. Obtain any required approvals for vehicle modifications from the appropriate authority.

General owner-care guidance. Follow the instructions for your actual assembly and replacement part. Stop if the fitting, condition or required specification is uncertain. Use a qualified mechanic for safety-critical systems or uncertain fitment.
