DIY replacement
Replace compatible windscreen wiper blades
A careful blade change can improve visibility without disturbing the wiper mechanism.
Before you buy
Compare both existing blade lengths, the arm connector and the locking clip with the replacement. Restored cars can have different arms from the original model. Buy a complete compatible blade rather than assuming every hook or refill fits. Have the supplier confirm the attachment from a clear photo.
Prepare the screen
Park safely, apply the handbrake and switch the ignition and wipers off. Work on one side at a time. Protect the windscreen with a folded towel beneath the arm. Do not force a seized arm or let the spring-loaded metal arm snap back onto the glass.
Exchange the blade
Photograph the connector first. Follow the replacement blade maker’s release and fitting instructions for that connector. Release the old blade while controlling the arm, fit the new one fully and confirm its lock engages. Gently check it cannot slide free, then lower it onto the towel and screen. Stop if the fitting needs force or an adaptor is unclear.
Check the result
Remove the towel and packaging. Wet the screen with washer fluid before running the wipers; do not test on dry glass. Confirm both blades clear the screen without hitting trim or each other. Persistent judder, loose arms or a faulty mechanism need workshop inspection.
